The hearty Mexican dish includes a flavorful filling wrapped in masa, then steamed in corn husks. Once you unwrap a freshly made tamale at your own table and take a bite, you’ll know your effort was worth it. This recipe encompasses Vianney’s love for her abuelita and honors her memory with a twist on chicken tamales. “The dried flowers also add a fragrant, earthy taste to the poached chicken filling,” Vianney says. Everyone has their favorite filling — chicken, beef and pork are all popular.

FLIGHTS OF FRUGALITY A good gift is one someone will actually use. When it comes to travel, that means choosing things that reduce stress—and up the enjoyment. If that’s not in your budget, choosing a gift that they’ll find useful and that you can afford can be tricky. Día de los Muertos is a tribute to the afterlife, a day meant to honor those who have died and keep their memory alive. Unlike Halloween, which historically was a day to ward off evil spirits, Day of the Dead is more about paying respects to loved ones who have died. Just like in Mexico, Filipinos visit their loved ones’ graves and also create altars to those who have passed. Many people honor Day of the Dead by visiting the graves of dead relatives and loved ones. People come together to share stories of their loved ones — helping keep their memory alive.

Stepping into the courtyard of Bombera, the acclaimed Mexican restaurant in Oakland, Calif., always feels like arriving at a party. Papel picado in marigold orange and saffron yellow flutters overhead, seemingly waving guests into the space, an airy former firehouse. But the restaurant reaches its full splendor in the fall, when the dining room is decorated in preparation for Mexican Day of the Dead. “From day one, she’s been helping us make sure that Bombera’s dressed up in bows,” Rice-Cisneros said. And when Momoca, who is based in Mexico City, mentioned last year that Japan also honors the dead by decorating altars, during the Obon spirit festival, Rice-Cisneros suggested she make one for Bombera, hatching a plan to unveil the installation during a party that would bring together their two communities.

Yes, Weschler explores Irwin’s early years with the California Abstract Expressionist school, and his move into spatial experimentation. But what’s really considered a plus-size body or garment? Mike Coppola/Getty ImagesThough there are no universal criteria for plus-size clothing, the general perception of what constitutes plus-size has changed over time. Sixty-seven percent of US women are considered plus-size, Downing Peters said. The dearth of plus-size clothing adds to a stigma that makes people with bigger bodies feel marginalized, she added. Other stores have meanwhile stopped separating standard and plus-size clothing into different departments, which may help eliminate stigma, Keist said.

In September, Medvedev said strategic nuclear weapons could be used to defend territories incorporated into Russia from Ukraine. And in January, as NATO member states debated new weapons shipments to Ukraine, Medvedev said defeat for Russia in the war could lead to nuclear conflict. “The loss of a nuclear power in a conventional war can provoke the outbreak of a nuclear war,” Medvedev wrote on Telegram in January. Nuclear rhetoricThe United States has previously warned Russia against using nuclear weapons in Ukraine, both through private direct communications, as well as public channels, including at last year’s UN General Assembly. CNN —The Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) has “no reason to doubt” Russian President Vladimir Putin’s claim that Russia has moved a first batch of tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus, senior DIA officials said on Friday. It is not clear how much of that arsenal Putin intends to move, and US and Western officials have not publicly confirmed that any weapons have been transferred to Belarus. But the senior DIA officials told a small group of reporters Friday that analysts have “no reason to doubt” Putin’s claims, and no reason to doubt “that they have had some success” in transferring the weapons. But the senior DIA officials said they do not believe Lukashenko would have any control over the arsenal. It would most likely be entirely controlled by Russia, the officials said.

On Monday morning, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told reporters that Sweden’s membership of NATO should be linked to Turkey’s membership of the European Union. And the Turkish president, officials are aware, is very good at using any leverage he has to extract things he wants from his Western allies. Erdogan, European officials have repeatedly said, knew that he had Brussels over a barrel as he could effectively “flood” Europe with refugees at will. It is therefore a headache, but not a huge shock, that Erdogan is using a key international summit to play his best hand. NATO, remarkably, has remained united for most of the war and has gone beyond what most expected was possible.
